Velodox Bus?

So over the past 3 years we've batted this idea around a few times. Last year we each paid part of a van rental and fuel. We've not purchased a bus for a few reasons:
1. Where do we store it?
2. Maintenance
3. Insurance/Registration

But this might be worth considering if we plan to do this crazy ride again. Here is a posting from the RAGBRAI message board:

Looking for a simple, solid, affordable team bus?

1991 chevy 59 passenger 366 gas
4 speed automatic recently replaced torque converter
dual batteries
cd player
couch
booth
partially carpeted
custom front bumper
around 139,000 miles on whole bus, less on the motor was replaced by the last owner Calamus-Wheatland Schools unsure of miles
cb radio
runs like a top drove to ames and back 3 hours each way in january 65-75mph without a hiccup

Painted silver and black could use a little paint touch up but very mechanically sound
Registered as motorhome

$2500 OBO

Any thought or ideas? Anyone have a nice big (dependable) van/motorhome/trailer, etc?

There are many unknowns. It would be a big commitment for a loose, unsponsored group. There would be many bills to split up, including gas, paint, repairs, insurance, registration, and storage. Who would drive? It sounds like a fun idea, but it would be work.

Greetings!

Call me blonde, but am not sure why I didn't think of this before, but I have a vehicle perfect for our adventure. It is a 13 ft gooseneck two horse trailer with a camper in front. LP stove, sink, cowboy shower, sleeping room, PLENTY of storage for bikes and gear, and sleeping room for several. A hay rack on top would work for tent, bags, etc...Air cond. available with elec.
My truck is a dependable 97 Ford diesel that is sweet to drive! No expense except fuel and some GOOD beer for the owner! I would gladly donate this every year. Let me know what ya think!!

I know...a day late and a dollar short. Just felt like responding to the bus idea. Carla, thank you for giving us another option. The bus just didn't seem like something I would want us to take on.

Looking forward to seeing you all at RAGBRAI. Get on the saddle and ride hard. We will soon congregate in Iowa for the ride of a lifetime.
